Explanation / Answer
You have asked for 4 cases: concave and convex mirror and concave and convex lens
A) Lets take mirror:
m = -v/u ; v = -mu ; v = image distance and u = object distance.
f = r/2 (for concave mirror, f is negative and for convex it is positive)
mirror formula : 1/v + 1/u = 1/f
a) -1/mu + 1/u = 1/2r (convex)
solving, u = 2r(m-1)/m
for this distance, v = 2r(1-m)
b) -1/mu + 1/u = -1/2r (concave)
solving, u = 2r(1-m)/m
for this distance, v = 2r(m-1)
B) For lens:
m = v/u ; v = mu ; v = image distance and u = object distance.
f = r/2 (for concave lens, f is negative and for convex it is positive)
lens formula : 1/v - 1/u = 1/f
a) 1/mu - 1/u = 1/2r (convex)
solving, u = 2r(1-m)/m
for this distance, v = 2r(1-m)
b) 1/mu - 1/u = -1/2r (concave)
solving, u = 2r(m-1)/m
for this distance, v = 2r(m-1)
