Question

This is a graded discussion: 1.67 points possible due Jan 30 Module 1 - General Discussion Topic 6 A) Do you think that the population of the United States grows exponentially according to the law yo.explkt)? Did the population of the United States ever grow according to this law? What kinds of populations might be predicted by this law? B) Is Newton's law of cooling a mathematical theorem that can be proven, or is it just a law that everyone thinks is true because it tends to agree with physical observations? Does it make any difference? How would you go about proving such a law?

Explanation / Answer

a)

Population of the United States does not grow exponentially. Population of United state had never grown like this. The population predicted by this law, is a population which is rising alarmingly.

b)

Newton’s law of cooling is not a mathematical theorem. Everyone thinks it is true because it tends to agree with physical observations. In fact it was derived from the physical observation by Newton. It does not make a huge difference because a physical observation is always a manifestation of some law of physics which can seriously be expressed mathematically. Such a law can be verified by conducting experiments.
