Question
An experiment measures the temperature of a 200g substance while steadily supplying heat to it. The figure shows the result of the experiment.
(found correct answers for Part A and Part B)
Part A.
What is the specific heat of the solid phase?
c=5000 J/kg*K
Part B.
What is the specific heat of the liquird phase?
c=6700 J/kg*K
Part C.
What is the melting temperature?
Part D.
What is the boiling temperature?
Part E.
What is the heat of fusion?
Part F.
What is the heat of vaporization?
Explanation / Answer
C. melting Temp. is where Temp. remains constant for first time
i.e. -20*C
D. boiling temperature is where Temp. remains constant for second time
i.e. 40*C
e.when temp. remains constant first time then heat given = (40-20) = 20 KJ
so,
heat of fusion = heat/mass = 20KJ/0.2Kg
= 100 KJ/kg = 100000J/kg
f. when temp. remains constant first time then heat given = (180-120) = 60 KJ
so,
heat of fusion = heat/mass = 60KJ/0.2Kg = 300 KJ/kg = 300000J/kg
