Question

My adviser commanded me to do this senior project
Design of intelligent home fire detection system
He told me that my project should have 2 rooms and 1 living room
I must have 2 fire/smoke sensors I must have 2 LCD displays
Because
Room 1 has a fire/smoke sensor an LCD display
Room 2 has a fire/smoke sensor an LCD display a fire/smoke sensor an LCD display
Living room has only one component which is ( Alarm )
The project operation is about detecting gas/fire flame/smoke.
Once there is gas in room 1/room 2/Both
Then, the system 1. triggers the alarm. 2. Monitors smoke level of both rooms and then display them in both LCDs.
But my confusion is My adviser required me to include both transmitter and receiver in this project.
My adviser did bot make it clear for me if I use 1 microcontrollers. Or 3 microcontroller located in the 2 rooms and living room.
I’m confused My question is Since this is Electrical Engineering Section
Based on the reader background And based on the picture attached above
My first question is about transmitter and Receiver
1. Do I have to have 3 microcontrollers?
2 of them microcontrollers Each one have 1sensor 1 lcd display 1 transmitter chip
And the microcontroller located in living room has
1 alarm 1 lcd display 1 receiver ar orm Sys Fre Smoke Seasing Co dait Comoue shons

Explanation / Answer

! No! not necessary ! one microcontroller will do the magic with approopriate interconnections, however as you have mentioned a transmitter and reciever we may have to use 2 Microcontrollers.. one at both the ends..

2. no matter how many sensors we can connect to them to a microcontroller (with certain restriction). for example if you take a basic 8051, it has 4(8 pins each) ports which means we can connect 32 devices ... also here as per your need, we may need a 8255( parallel interface just increase the 32 devices to few more). to these ports we connect ADC as our sensors sense analog quantities ,the ADC's out is then connected to the ports and in the other ports we can connect our LCD(takes moostly 11 pins in ports). as descibed if you want the data to be transmitted we have to use serial communication pin available in the chip itself.(refer datasheets for various chips)

3. here , since alarm is used. we have to convert digital to Analog, so DAC is used .. and if we use some wireless as u have mentioned it can also be connected to the RXD pin provided in the chip( refer the datasheets for various models)

so simply put, the fire sensor in a bedroom senses a smoke/fire and immediately sends the data to the lcd as well as the transmitter which then transmitts the data to reciver which gives it to the second microcontroller , the microcontroller as programmed will trigger the alarm..

Hope you understood!

Its an interesting topic and will be much more interesting if you start doing it..

All the Best
