Question
2) Draw a timing diagram of the circuit above. Assume each input combination lasts for 20ns and the propagation delay from the input of the circuit to the output is 2ns. See slide 62 of Chapter 2 slides for an example of the timing diagram, part c): ideal but with delay. (20 pts)
Find the critical path and the fastest path for the circuit below and indicate their delays. The delays are as follows: NOT = 1ns, AND = 3ns, OR = 3ns, NAND = 2ns, NOR = 2ns, XOR = 4ns. write the paths in terms of the gate numbers (e.g.: 1-5-7-10-11ns). (16 pts) A B C D 10Explanation / Answer
ANS (1) Given Delays are :-
NOT = 1ns, AND = 3ns, OR = 3ns, NAND = 2ns, NOR = 2ns, XOR = 4ns
In order to find all the Ciritical and the Fastest Path, we will write all the Possible Paths, along with their gate numbers and Delays :-
(i) 1-5-7-10 = 11ns
(ii) 1-5-7-9-10 = 13ns
(iii) 2-5-7-10 = 10ns
(iv) 2-5-7-9-10 = 12ns
(v) 2-6-7-10 = 9ns
(vi) 2-6-7-9-10 = 11ns
(vii) 2-6-8-10 = 12ns
(viii) 4-8-9-10 = 8ns
Critical Path :- The critical path is defined as the path between an input and an output with the maximum delay. And from all the possible paths, the path with maximum delay of 13ns, i.e the critical Path is 1-5-7-9-10 .
Fastest Path : It is the Path with the minimum Delay. And the Fastest Path is 4-8-9-10 with minimum delay of 8ns.
