Explanation / Answer

Q. Where should only rags be stored ?

Ans. Oily rags should be stored in self closing metal containers in order to prevent spontaneous combustion.  Spontaneous combustion occurs when a combustible material is heated to its ignition temperature by a chemical reaction involving the oxygen in the air around the material. This heating process is known as self-heating. In the case of oily rags, it’s a relatively simple process of oil oxidizing generating heat, which if not dissipated, will build up until combustion occurs. Generally, this can happen when the materials are left in piles, which provide a source of insulation, trapping the heat that is generated.

Q Even a brief, unprotected exposure to a weldin arc can damage your eyes. what is the damage called ?

Ans A brief exposure to welding arc will cause Flash burns in eyes because Welding arcs give off radiation over a broad range of wavelengths - from 200 nm (nanometres) to 1,400 nm (or 0.2 to 1.4 µm, micometres). This includes ultraviolet (UV) radiation (200 to 400 nm), visible light (400 to 700 nm), and infrared (IR) radiation (700 to 1,400 nm). And these radiations can produce an injury to the surface and mucous membrane (conjunctiva) of the eye called "arc eye," "welders' eye" or "arc flash." These names are common names for "conjunctivitis" - an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the front of the eye.

Q. The temprature at which the fuel gives off enough gases to burn is called ?

Ans. The temperature at which a liquid gives off enough vapors to support fire is called the flash point.

Q. When you are fit-testing a respiratory with a pressure check, what part of the respiratory do you block of?

Ans. This can be answered by the following two points :-

(i) Negative-pressure seal check : Block the air inlets. These are usually the filter openings on the sides of the facepiece.

(ii) Positive-pressure seal check : Block the exhalation valve. This is usually on the bottom of the respirator.

Q. Protecting sources of electrical energy is what type of fire prevention method ?

Ans. It is a method of controlling sources of fuel :- The first power plants were run on water power or coal, and today rely mainly oncoal, nuclear, natural gas, hydroelectric, wind generators, and petroleum, with supplementary amounts from solar energy, tidal power, and geothermal sources.

The different sources of electrical energy are :-

a)Fossil fuels 67% (coal 41%), oil (5.1%), natural gas (21%)

b) Renewable energy 16% (mainly hydroelectric (92%), wind (6%), geothermal (1%), and solar (1%)

c) Nuclear power 13%

d) Other sources 3% (i.e., biofuels and biomass)

As we can Clearly see, the main source of electrical enery is FUEL.

Q. When fighting a class B fire you should adjust the nozzle to produce :-

Ans. A Narrow Spray Pattern : Class B fires are the fires caused due to imflammable liquids or high pressure gas and Fog nozzles are used to tackle these fires. Fog nozzles use the narrow-angle cone for advancing an attack line into a structure or fire room.

Q. Select all that should be included in a fire emergency plans.

Ans. Evacuation Procedure : There must be a proper evacuation procedure to save lives.

Roles of employees deisgnated for special duty : A group of peple who were earlier trained on how to tackle these events, should know there roles very well, when such an accident occurs.

Identification of fire extinguishing euipment available : The different fire extinguishing equipment available at the site should be identified in order to have some control over the fire.

Q. Which on of these actions should you always take in the event of a chemical emergency ?

Ans. Follow your company's emergency action plan : It is always beneficial to follow the plan which was prepared for such events. Because the plan was prepared taking all things( like how to evacuate, first aid etc.) under considerations.

Q. In class A fire which type of material would be buring ?

Ans. Wood or Paper .

Class A fire : Fires with trash, wood, paper or other combustible materials as the fuel source.

These were really good questions related to fire hazards. And It was a great pleasure anwering these.
