Question
EXPERIMENT:
SELF-EXCITED D.C. SERIES GENERATOR
Make CONCLUSION and RECOMMENDATION in this experiment. At least ONE PARAGRAPH. No need to draw illustrations.
PROCEDURES 1. Before performing thie experiment, ensure firet that the bruahee of the DC Motor/Generator are adjueted to the neutral point. 2. Couple the Synchronoue motor ueing a timing belt. Then connect the eet-up hown n Fig. 5.1 Synchronous Generato DC MOTOR 120/205 Vac Fig. 5,1 3. Connect the terminal 4, 5, and 6 of the eynchronoue motor windnge to wye connection and the other ende (termindle 1, 2 and 3) to a fixed three phase AC source, termindle 1, 2, 3. 4. Connect the reeietive loade in paralel then connect them to the generator. Set the reaietancee witchea for no-load poeition. Turn on the power upply. The motor and the generator ehould atart running at thie moment. 6, Set the Reeietance Module to a load value of 57 7. Repeat proceduree 6 but eetting the load to the valuee ndicated in Table 5.1. If the voltage ie not buildng up, interchangeExplanation / Answer
Conclusion
Therefore, in a self-excited series dc generator, the power that produce by the generator was very small which make it impossible to reach the rated power of the load. And simple as a series circuit the characteristic of a self-excited series dc generator also perform a constant current across the field resistance, armature resistance and the load.
We conclude that in this experiment “Self excited series dc generator” that the current in the whole circuit (armature, series field and load current) is increasing as we increase the number of load resistance. Therefore it is directly proportional. This characteristic is also applicable to the voltage regulation (VR) and the power (EgIa). As the number of load resistance, the percentage of voltage regulation also increases the same with load power. It is the effect of increasing the currents. If the current increased, the source power and the voltage also increased.
Recomentations and questions regarding experiment
1. How do the quantities vary with the addition of load?
a. Circuit current Ia = Is = IL (varies directly proportional)
b.Full load voltage Vfl = 1/ no load (inversely proportional)
c.Load power PL = 1/ no load (inversely proportional)
d. Generated power EgIa = no load (directly proportional)
2. What does the %VR tells?
Answer: %Vr is the percentage of voltage regulation and gives the quality of the generator. Low value is good and high magnitude means low quality or poor performance.
3.Compare the magnitude of Rf and Rs., which must be higher? Why?
Answer: Rf must always be greater then Rs. it has very high value for it is connected in shunt with the generator, therefore needs to resist higher voltage. Rs is very low to consume just low voltage which is intended For the load.
