laboratory and attempt to purh the wall away a wall against a wall and the action at each 0 Explain why the muscles you identified in step 2 are contracting isometrically Word Origins lsotonic comes from Greek and means "equal tension" (isos, qual tonos, "tension"). The name refers to the state of a contracting muscle as it shortens to overcome a constant load (tension), such as lifting a bottle of water off a table. dimensions" (isos, "equal metron, "measure"). The name refers to the condition of a muscle that contracts but does not hange in length MAKING CONNECTIONS performed At what point during a knee bend, which you during this activity, are your thigh contracting muscles isometrically? Explain your answer. EXERCISE 13 Physiology of the Muscular

Explanation / Answer

pectoralis major, the front of your shoulder muscles, and the back of your arms, the triceps brachii

Every time you engage a muscle it either shortens, lengthens or stays the same. When you use a muscle and there is movement of a bone or joint, it is called an isotonic contraction. Isotonic contractions can be eccentric or concentric. Eccentric contractions occur when the muscle shortens to make a bone or joint move. Concentric contractions happen when the muscle gets longer.

concentric phase - You will feel it working your deltoids, shoulders and triceps. When you hold with your arms extended and just push against the wall without moving your bones or joints, you are performing an isometric muscle contraction, working your triceps, shoulders and chest

That is the eccentric part of the isotonic muscle contraction, working your pectoralis major, the front of your shoulder muscles, and the back of your arms, the triceps brachii. Hold for a count of three.
