Question
I've have been stuck on this all day. Any guidence will be great. Thanks in advanced.
An R?L-C series circuit has R = 300 ?. At the frequency of the source, the inductor has reactance XL= 895 ? and the capacitor has reactance XC= 500?.
The peak voltage across the inductor is 430V.
What is the peak voltage across the resistor? What is the amplitude of the voltage across the capacitor?
What is the rate at which the source is delivering electrical energy to the circuit?
Sketch a phasor diagram representing this circuit and use it to estimate a phase angle.
Does the voltage lead or lag the current
Explanation / Answer
V inductor = XL I
I = 430/895
V resistor = 300*430/895=144.1 V
V cacpacitor = 500*430/895=240.2 V
rate = I V resistor/2 = (430/895)*144.1=69.23 W
angle = arctan( (XL-XC)/R) = arctan( (895-500)/300)=52.78 degrees
since XL>XR voltage leads
