Question

A duck has a mass of 2.4 kg. As the duck paddles, a force of 0.06 N acts on it in a direction due east. In addition, the current of the water exerts a force of 0.14 N in a direction of 47

Explanation / Answer

i have the same model problem with different values in my book. hope it helps .please give points. F1 = 0.09 N m = 2.7 kg F2 = 0.13 N ? =53 V = 0.13 m/s t = 2.6 s Ft = total force =? ? = new angle of Ft with respect to EAST = ? F2 has two components: sin ? = F2y/F2 F2y = F2 x sin ? F2x = F2 x cos ? Fx = F1 + F2x Fy = = F2y Ft^2 = Fx^2 + Fy^2 Ft = sqrt *((F1 + F2x)^2 + F2y^2) Ft = 0.1979 N = magnitud of force (this is not what they are asking you to find yet) Sin ? = Fy/Ft --> ? = arcsin ((0.13xsin(53)) / 0.1979)) = 31.68 (with respect to EAST) = relative direction of force = relative direction of dispalacement V = d/t --> d = V x t = 0.13 x 2.6 = 0.338 m Now something's stange with the questions asked. If the duck has a costant speed then the force applied is not accelerating him, so the formulas with acceleration do not apply in this case.
