Question
Assume an aircraft has a radar cross section of 710 meters^2, and the receiving antenna has a cross section twice as large. If this aircraft is 50 km away, what percent of the radiated energy is eventually detected? I know that the distance traveled by the electromagnetic waves from the radar is twice as much as the distance mentioned as it has to travel to the object, in this case an aircraft, and travel back to the antenna. But how do you figure out what percent is detected by the antenna? I think doing a ratio would work but I dont think 25% is the answerExplanation / Answer
fraction of area= (710/2*710) ^2 X 100 =25 %
