Question
There are a few homework questions that I am needing help on as this is new to me!
Identify symbols for alleles, show genotypes of parents, show gametes produced, show Punnett squares, show genotypes and phenotypes of offsrping.
1. In squash white (W) is dominant to yellow (w). Give the genotypic and phenotypic ratios that result from each of the following crosses:
WW x ww
Ww x ww
Ww x Ww
2. In pea plants tall is dominant to short and purple flowers are dominant to white flowers. Give the genotypic and phenotypic rations of the F1 and F2 generations of a cross between an individual homozygous for both dominant traits and a short individual with white flowers.
3. In watermelons short is dominant to long and green is dominant to striped. Give the genotypic and phenotypic ratios in the offspring of a cross between a plant heterozygous for both characters and a plant that produces long, striped melons. If eighty offspring are produced, how many plants would be expected to produce melons that are long and striped?
4. Rh positive blood is dominant to Rh negative blood. A child with AB negative blood and a child with O negative blood are produced from parents that are A positive and B positive respectively. Show the genotypes of the parents involved in this cross and the resulting Punnett square. (hint: the Punnett square will have 16 blocks.
5. In cattle short horn is dominant to long horn and red and white produce roan. Show the genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring that could be produced from a cross between an individual heterozygous for both characters and an individual that is long horned and roan.
6. A lethal allele kills in the early stages of development. A man marries a woman who is heterozygous for a recessive lethal on the X chromosome. Many children are produced. What will be the ration of girls to boys among the offspring?
