1 a. Ans- testing catalase positive organism along with unknown is positive control. Because catalase positive organism when tested for catalase, it will show positive results. So we can compare catalase test result of unknown and known positive test. That will give clear idea about catalase test results.
1b. Ans- When catalase test is positive it will show bubbles in the tube. It indicates organisms produces catalase and breakdown hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen molecule. Hydrogen peroxide is byproduct of aerobic respiration. It indicates organism is aerobic or facultative anaerobes. Usually members of enterobacteriaceae family are catalase positive.
When catalase test is negative, there will be no bubbles in the tube. It means organism do not produce catalase. It indicates organism is anaerobic or facultative anaerobic.
