Question
A Jaguar xk8 convertible has an eight-cylinder engine. At the beginning of its compression stroke, one of the cylinders contains 499cm^3 of air at atmospheric pressure (1.01*10^5Pa) and a temperature of 27 C. At the end of the stroke, the air has been compresses to a volume of 46.2cm^3 and the gauge pressure has increased to 2.72*10^6 PA, compute the final
temperature in C. I can't seem to get the right answer for this when I got 475.01 mastering
physics told me to use total pressure so then I got 510.3 C which is still wrong. Please
Help!
Explanation / Answer
I agree with the 1st answer's formulas, but I got an answer about 1.5% greater. Using a calculator I got 748.389 K or 475.239 C. EDIT: Now I get it. 1st answerer made a 5 K error in adding 27 and 273, and there's a typo, 46.3 instead of 46.2.
