MEIOSIS AND GENETICS 1. Define the terms genotype and phenotype. 2. Are the following genotypes homozygous or heterozygous? B. Aa ?.aa 3. Draw a homologous pair of chromosomes before replication. Depict each member of the pair carrying different alleles of gene A. 4. Draw two homologous pairs of chromosomes after replication. Draw one homologous pair as heterozygous for gene A and the other as homozygous for gene B. Label the sister chromatids and homologous pairs 5. What kinds of gametes can be produced by 6. In humans, the gene for duced from this mating. marries a woman who cannot roll her tongue. Predict the phenotypes and genotypes of any offspring produced from this matiExplanation / Answer
According to chegg guidelines I'm answering the very first questions. for more answers you have to upload each question separately.
1. Genotype: the genetic composition of any organism which is composed of set of genes.
Example: the gene for hair colour, X and Y gene for sex determination, TT Allele for tall hight of plant.
Tt, TT, tt, XX, XY genotypes.
Phenotype: these are the characters which are divisible by eyes.
For this character we don't need to find genotype.
For example: skin color of fish, Eye colr of humans: grey, black, brown, blue.
Tall plant, short.
If we say that this plant is tall with red flowers. So this is the phenotype of that particular plant. But the genotype is TTRR.
T and R used for the denotation.
2. Homo means same.
Hetero means different.
AA : In this genotype both alleles are same, means homozygous.
aa= both are same means homozygous genotype.
Aa : one is capital and another is small meals heterozygous. both are different alleles in this genotype.
