Question
PLEASE, read bottom.A 51.3-kg skateboarder starts out with a speed of 1.85 m/s. He does 101 J of work on himself by pushing with his feet against the ground. In addition, friction does -262 J of work on him. In both cases, the forces doing the work are non-conservative. The final speed of the skateboarder is 9.03 m/s. (a) Calculate the change (PEf - PE0) in the gravitational potential energy. (b) How much has the vertical height of the skater changed? Give the absolute value.
For the first answer I got "-2164.727J" which is CORRECT.
For the second answer I got "-4.306m" which is INCORRECT.
I do not under stand what I am doing wrong.
Explanation / Answer
a) -101-262 +x + 2003.7 = 0 change in GPE = -1640.73 J b) change in verticcal hieght ( hf - hi ) = - 3.26 m
