2 pts. Consider a hypothetical quantitative trait (a weight of some kind) affected by five loci. Assume the following: Complete dominance at all loci No epistasis The independent effect of each dominant allele is +10 lbs. The independent effect of each recessive allele is -4 lbs. Homozygous combinations, the genotypic value breeding value 600 lbs. a) Fill in the following table Individu Genotvpe BV AaBbCcDdEe AAbbCCddEE b) Which individual is the heaviest? Explain your answer c) Which individual would produce the heaviest offspring (on average)? Explain. 2) 2 pts. Answer part (a) of question 1 again, but this time assume no dominance at any loci, a) Fill in the following table IndividuaGetype BV AaBbCcDdEe AAbbCCddEE -15 b) How and why do your answers differ from the answers to question 1?

Explanation / Answer

The transfer of traits does not depend on the weight of a person but the number of dominant and recessive genes. Instead of giving the weight of the genotype taken together the number of genes should be taken instead of the weight. This is the defect in the picture.
