Massive advances in DNA technology over the last 20 years mean that molecular biology and genetics are central in fields as diverse as forensics, epidemiology, screening for diseases and archaeology. The tools and the knowledge now available allow manipulation of the ‘blueprints’ of life and the creation of ‘novel’ organisms such as gene therapy.

Question:

Discuss about gene therapy. Do you support or against Gene therapy? If yes or no, give your reasons.

Gene therapy: It is process of transfer of foreign desired gene or genes into targeted cells or tissues of any organism.

In the gene therapy the desired gene is transferred directly into the living organism for benefits.

There are many methods for the transfer of desired genes into targated cells.

Methods:

Gene gun method: in this a small gene transferring euipment is used called as gene gun by which gene is targeted to the target cell.

Cacl2 mediated gene transfer: and this child are treated with calcium chloride. due to this agent minute pores are formed in the cell membrane which allows transfer of gene from outside to inside the cell.

Microinjection: in this method a puppet like structure is used which is very small called as micropipette. Through this micropipette gene is transferred into the cell.

Gene therapy benefits:

by the use of gene therapy we can solve many disease or deficiency issues by delivering the corresponding gene.

For example insulin gene, or any other protein producing gene can be transferred into the target cell. So cell become able to produce insulin. Due to the presence of new delivered genes cell become able to produce the required protein product.

use of gene therapy for disease treatment and control by controlling other activities.

use of gene therapy for deficiency treatment.

use of gene therapy for abnormality treatment.

overproduction of desired compounds from desired plants or animals like hormones, vitamins, milk, antibiotics etc.

demerits of gene therapy:

due to the imbalancing of natural system various kind of naturdue to the imbalancing of natural system various kind of unexpected negative effects are also observed in the gene therapy.

for example hormonal imbalance leads to imbalance of other condition.

overproduction is produced but other factors like quality and other metabolic process can be affected by gene tgerapy.

Due to the interference of natural system the inserted gene can show undesired on negative unexpected results.

In most of cases gene therapy will give positive results.

Various regulations prohibited gene therapy due to social, ethical and environmental issues.

I support gene therapy in few of the conditions in which beneficial results are obtained without any negative effect on organism or on environment.

For example we can use gene therapy on those disease which doesn't have treatment option by other procedures.

I will not support gene therapy in all of the cases just support gene therapy used and some cases in which other options are not available.
