Explanation / Answer

Simmon's citrate test media is made with citrate (only carbon source) and other required ingradients to grow. there will be a dye (bromothymol blue) which will give indication on change of pH. this dye will give green color at 6.9 or below pH, where it will turns into blue at 7.6 or greater.

those bacteria, who can use citrate as their sole source of carbon can grow on this medium, and if they use citrate as the carbon source then they will generates carbonates and bicarbonates as byproduct. and thus the pH of medium will raise up. so colour will turn in to blue.

Initially, the medium or slant plate will be green coloured,

then it will be inoculated with three different bacteria as said in question.

the result will be as follow...

Klebsiella pneumoniae - it will turn medium in blue, because it can use citrate as its carbon source.

E.Coli - medium color will be same as before, green.

Proteus mirabilis - it will change the color of medium by utilizing citrate. Minor species of this bacteria are also negetive for this test. but the majority are of positive.
