Question

Your task in physics laboratory is to make a microscope from two lenses. One lens has a focal length of 2.4cm , the other 1.0cm . You plan to use the more powerful lens as the objective, and you want the eyepiece to be 18cm from the objective.

(A)
For viewing with a relaxed eye, how far should the sample be from the objective lens?
Express your answer using two significant figures. (cm)

(B)
What is the magnification of your microscope?
M=

please show work for good rating need both a and b please
this is mastering physics so a correct answer does help thank you
will give 5 star of answer correct

Explanation / Answer

a)for your microscope, forcal length of objective fo = 3 cm and focal length of eyepeiec is fe = 10 cm. now, for the objective if 'u' is the object distance,from Gausiian formula 1/fo = 1/u + 1/v , so that, 1/3 = 1/u + 1/16 , solving which u= 3.692 cm b) now, regarding magnification, at near point( though you didn't mention it) M = v / u ( 1 + D / fe) , where D = 25 cm ( distance of distinct vision) = 16 / 3.692 ( 1 + 25 / 10 ) = 15.17 (nearly)
