Question

The BRCA1 gene is expressed in breast and ovarian cells; this expression is regulated by steroid hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. When the receptor of estrogen is bound with estrogen, it is activated and in turn, produces a substance that binds to a certain base sequence in the corresponding gene, and increases the rate of gene expression. This sequence is:

A. A signaling sequence in the transcription area

B. A sequence in the terminator of the gene

C. A sequences at the junction of exons and introns

D. ribosome recognition site of the mRNA

E. A sequence upstream to the starting point of the transcription region

The presence of a poly-A tail on a molecule of RNA found in the cytoplasmindicates that:

A 5’ cap will be attached later

The introns will be removed soon

The introns have already been removed

The mRNA is not mature yet

E. This is a tRNA molecule

Which of the following is wrong about alternative splicing?

A single pre-mRNA produces various mature mRNAs.

Some of the introns are translated

Some of the exons may not be translated.

A gene can produce more than one protein.

Damaged DNA is selectively removed by the splicing machinery

Two of the above

A.

B.

The introns will be removed soon

C.

The introns have already been removed

D.

C.

D.

E.

F.

Two of the above

Explanation / Answer

A1) i believe the correct answer to be E. A sequence upstream to the starting point of the transcription region because the signalling seems to be resulting in activation of transcription factor that binds upstream of the transcription.

A2) the correct answer should be C) The introns have already been removed because the mRNA in cytoplasm should be a matured RNA that should not contain introns.

A3) I believe the correct answer to be B) Some of the introns are translated as introns are not translated, its just the arrangement of exons that leads to the formation of multiple proteins.
