Question

The magnetic field perpendicular to a circular wire loop 11.6cm in diameter is changed from +0.31T to -0.23T in 180ms , where + means the field points away from an observer and - toward the observer. Calculate the induced emf. This is what I got:

Number of turns = 1

Diameter = d = 0.116m

Radius = r = d/2 = 0.058m

Area = A=pi r^2 = 0.011m^2

Change in time = dt = 0.18s

Change in magnetic field = db = 0.13- (-0.23) = 0.36

emf = NA db/dt

=(1)(0.011)(0.36)/(0.18)

=0.022 V

However this is incorrect. Whatam I doing wrong?

Explanation / Answer

Change in magnetic field = 0.31-(-0.23) = 0.31+0.23 = 0.54 T

A = 0.010568318 = 0.011m2

Therefore E.M.F. = 0.031705 V
