Question

Two objects are connected by a string of length 3.28 m and negligible mass. The 5 kg block is placed on a smooth table top, and the 3 kg block hangs over the edge of the table, as shown. The 3 kg block is then released from rest at a distance of 0.82 m above the floor at time t = 0.
The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s2 .
The 3 kg block strikes the floor and does not bounce.

Hence: the acceleration is 3.675 m/s^2

a)How long dies it take the 3 kg block to strike the floor? Answer in units of s.

b)Determine the distance between the land- ing points of the two blocks. Answer in units of m.

i posted this question 3 times and i didn't get a correct answer

Explanation / Answer

A. a = F/m = 8*9.8 / (10+8) = 4.36 m/s^2 B. 1.1 = (1/2) 4.36 t^2 t = sqrt(2.2/4.36) = 0.711 s C. 4. It moves with a constant acceleration. D. 3. It moves with a constant speed. E. 8 kg block lands on the floor even with the edge of the table. 10 kg block travels at a horizontal speed of v = a t = 4.36 * 0.711 = 3.1 m/s The 10 kg block lands v t = 3.1*0.711 = 2.2 m from the edge of the table so they land 2.2 m apart.
