Question
1. Three alleles exist for coat color in rabbits: Cp, Ct, and Cz. A male Cp/Cz is crossed with a female Ct/Ct. Occasionally some rare genotypes occur. For each of the following rare genotypes, explain how they occurred: state which meiotic stage nondisjunction occurred and in which parent (male vs. female) the event occurred (example: female meiosis I). What caused the following rare genotype: Cp/Cz/Ct 2. Three alleles exist for coat color in rabbits: Cp, Ct, and Cz. A male Cp/Cz is crossed with a female Ct/Ct. What caused the following rare genotype: Cp/Cz/CtExplanation / Answer
1. The rare genotype Cp/Cz/Zt is caused due to second nondisjunction during meiosis 2 in the male rabbit, as a result of which there is incomplete segregration of the alleles during that stage. This causes the alleles to remain together.
2. The rare genotype Cp/Cp/Ct is caused due to nondisjunction during Meiosis 1 of both the female and the male. As the result the alleles failed to seperate that caused the alleles to be together.
3. The rare genotype Ct is caused because of the failure of homologous chromosomes to seperate during meiosis 1 in the female, which lead to nondisjunction.
