Question
A frictionless plane is 9.4 m long and inclinedat 31.9. A sled starts at the bottom with an
initial speed of 5.03 m/s up the incline. When
it reaches the point at which it momentarily
stops, a second sled is released from the top
of this incline with an initial speed vi . Both
sleds reach the bottom of the incline at the
same moment.
The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s2 .
a. Find the distance that the first sled traveled
up the incline.
Answer in units of m
b. Find the initial speed of the second sled.
Answer in units of m/s
i already got part a and it is 2.44m. please help for part b
Explanation / Answer
for part b:
d2 = vi(t) +1/2*g *sin*(t2).............(1)
d1= 1/2*g*sin*t2 ........................(2)
now , we know that d2 =9.4m ,d1=2.44m
hence from (2)............t=0.97 s
put this in (1)..........9.4=vi(.97)+2.44
vi=7.17m/s
