Question
3. As a USDA Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) employee, you have been tasked with determining whether or not a particular species, native to China, can be introduced into the US. The species of interest is being presented for the aquarium trade industry and is a beautiful, colorful aquarium fish called Laetus pulchra (please note: this is a hypothetical species that exists only for the purposes of this exam question). As you research it you have determined that it is aggressive to other fish in its native habitat, capable of storing sperm, produces a large number of offspring that result in high fecundity, and has a wide tolerance for environmental conditions. It has been found to reproduce in an aquarium, given proper space, provided there are plenty of its required nutrients. What would be your recommendation? Would you allow its introduction? Do you need additional information? If so provide a description as to what that information is needed. Provide well referenced logic in making your recommendation. You are producing this as a memo that will be given to the aquarium company "Pisces-R-Us", which is the company asking for the fish to be approved for introduction. Please prod supervisors would be proud for you to submit. 25 pts uce a document that APHISExplanation / Answer

Subject : For the introduction of chinese fish species into US
Discussion: Introducing a species into a new environment may have a variety of outcomes. However, when these alien species begin to have negative consequences in the new habitat, they may cause environmental harm, economic harm, or impact human health.
Laetus pulchra will also invade the aquatic ecosystem in US if it is introduced there. Because all of its characteristics show that it will outcompete the native fish species and it could lead to their extinction. Just because of it's beauty we should not introduce any species into an area where it can spread to such an extent that native species come in danger. So, I recommend that Laetus pulchra should not be intoduced into US for any purpose whether it is for aquarium trade industry or anything else.
