Consider four lightweight metal-coated balls suspended on thin cotton threads as shown in the diagram that follows. Suppose ball A is rubbed with a plastic rod that has been rubbed with fur. When you observe interactions between pairs of balls one at a time you find that: B, C, and D are each attracted to A B and C seem to have no effect on each other B and C are both attracted to D Figure out what type of charge is on each of balls. Explain your reasoning.

The process is called the triboelectric effect. The fur would be positive and the plastic would be negative .
so Aleft has positive ,Aright negative
Bleft has positive ,Bright negative
Cleft has positive ,Cright negative
Dleft has positive ,Dright negative

1.)So B,C,D attract A as they are of opposite charge on Aright ,B,C,D left
2.) due to symmetry B and C have no effect
3.) B,C right are attracted to Dleft due to opposite charge
