Question
The physics and phys ed. clubs decide to hold a canoe race on a river.
The physics club measure two equal 100 m distances, one parallel to the rivers flow (ROUTE 1), and one perpendicular to the rivers flow ( ROUTE 2).
They ask you to decide which route they should choose since phys ed is confident that they'll wub regardless. According to your calculations if both teams paddle at 5.00 m/s relative to the water...
a) the club should choose route 2, and will win by t= 25 s
b) the club should choose route 1 and will win by t= 12.5 s
c) both teams will tie as the paths are both the same length, travelled at the same speed
d) the club should choose route 2, and will win by t=12.5s
e) the club should choose route 1, and will win before the other canoe turns around
