Question in picture*
A block is placed on a frictionless ramp at a height of 1.35 m above the ground. Starting from rest, the block slides down the ramp. At the bottom of the ramp, the block slides onto a frictionless horizontal track without slowing down. What is the speed of the block on the horizontal track? At the end of the horizontal track, the block slides smoothly onto a second frictionless ramp. How high above the ground will the block be when it just comes to rest before sliding back down?Explanation / Answer
using energy conservation
mgh = mv^2 /2
9.8 x 1.35 = v^2 /2
v =5.14 m/s
again using conservation ,
mv^2/2 = mgh
5.14^2 /2 = 9.8 x h
h = 1.35 m
