Question

I'm having trouble with these questions and my hw is due today at midnigh. So please I need help!

An airplane flies from Chicago to New Orleans (a distance of 1500 km) in the morning, then immediately returns to Chicago. The speed of the plane relative to the air is 240 m/s. The wind is blowing at 50 m/s from west to east, so it is perpendicular to the line that connects the two cities.

(a) What is the average speed of the plane relative to the ground on the way to New Orleans?

Explanation / Answer

1) a) Vpg = Vpa+Vag = 240j+50i
speed = sqrt(240^2+50^2) = 245.15 m/s

b) a) Vpg = Vpa+Vag = -240j+50i
speed = sqrt(240^2+50^2) = 245.15 m/s

c) V_av = distance /time = 245.15 m/s

2)m2*g-T = m2*a

T - m1*a = m1*a

on adding the above two

accelaration a = (m2-m1)*g/(m1+m2)
a = (82-30)*9.81/(30+82)
a = 4.55 m/s^2

s = u*t +0.5*a*t^2 ....u =0........

t = 2.3s

3) b) Fgravity x = +m*g*sin(20)

F gravity-y = +m*g*cos20

c) Fx = F gravity x - Ff

= +m*g*sin(20)-Ff

Fy = m*g*cos20-N
