Explanation / Answer

R1 ||R2 = R1 x R2 / (R1 + R2)

so Rnet = (0.850 + 3) || ( 7 +5)
           = 2.92 ohm
i = V/R = 48.5/2.92 = 16.64 A

current through upper branch = 16.64 x ( 7 +5) / [( 7 +5) +(0.850 + 3) ]
