Question

10/(401 sin x 14.22) = 23.18/(401 cos x -17.56)

I got this equation

but I kept getting wrong answer.

During a clay pigeon shooting match, a clay pigeon is fired with an initial speed of 81.5 km/h at an angle of 39Âdegree above the horizontal. Then 1.63 s later, the shooter fires a shot that has a speed of 401 m/s. When the shooter is standing straight behind the clay pigeon launcher, at what angle should she aim? (Assume that the +x-axis is to the right and the +y-axis is up along the page. Both the clay pigeon launcher and the shooter are pointing to the right.) A counterclockwise from the +x-axis

Explanation / Answer

u = 81.5 km/h = 81.5 x 1000 /3600 =22.64 m/s

in horizontal :

22.64cos39 x( 1.63 + t) = 401 x t

t = 0.075 sec

x = 22.64cos39 x( 1.63 + t)    =30m

y = 22.64sin39 x (1.63+t) - 9.8x (1.63+t)^2 /2   =10.05 m

angle = tan-1(10.05 / 30) =18.52 degrees
