False positive means in ELISA assay signifies that person is having the viral disease when infact the person does not have. False positive result may occur due to interferences caused by heterophilic antibodies.

False negative means in ELISA assay signifies that person is not having the viral disease when infact the person have that disease. False negative result may occur due to insufficient antigen coating of microtitre plates.

Test well be done for checking the antibodies for rubella virus. If mother had already in past, rubella disease than antibodies against the virus, will be there in the body but, if this not the case, mother should be vaccinated during pregnancy.

It is important because, antibodies signify that, your body is ready to fight against the germs and other infection in the body.
