Question
Please help me with this problem and show the work so that i can see the process for getting the answer.
A car is traveling along a straight road at a velocity of +27.6 m/s when its engine cuts out. For the next 1.40 seconds, the car slows down, and its average acceleration is a1. For the next 3.70 seconds, the car slows down further, and its average acceleration is a2. The velocity of the car at the end of the 5.10-second period is +18.4 m/s. The ratio of the average acceleration values is a1/a2= 1.32. Find the velocity of the car at the end of the initial 1.40-second interval.
Explanation / Answer
v1=27.6-a1*1.4(after 1 sec)
v2=v1-a2*3.7(after 5.1 sec)
18.4=27.6-1.4a1-3.7a2
put a2=a1/1.32
a1=2.189 m/sec^2
v1=27.6-2.189*1.4=24.535 m/sec
