Question

Northern Blot Two graduating seniors (Adam and George) were told to do an experiment where they analyzed RNA expression for gene-Z in 3 mice from a litter. The agreement was that the student who got the best results the fastest could graduate this semester, and the other student would have to wait another year before they could graduate. Adam decided to do RT-PCR for gene-Z and designed his own primers. George decided to do a Northern Blot and got the probe from a friend who works in a different lab. The guys did their experiment and got the following results: A. (3 pts) How would you describe the results from the RT-PCR? 1 2 3 B. (3 pts) How would you describe the results from the Northern Blot?

Explanation / Answer

A) From the RT-PCR it was shown that the z gene is present in all the 3 mice but the 3 rd mice has a little shift. So from the result it can be concluded that ll the mice had gene z

B) From the Northern blot in 3rd mice there was no band. 1st and 2nd had different band sizes whuch means the probe was not specific and hybridized randomly

So from both the results RT-PCR looks efficient
