Question

Rank in order, from most positive to most negative, the image heights in the following situations:

Rank from most positive to most negative. To rank items as equivalent, overlap them

1. A 1.0-cm-tall object is 8 cm from a converging lens of focal length of 10 cm.
2. A 1.5-cm-tall object is 7 cm from a diverging lens of focal length of -10 cm.
3. A 2.0-cm-tall object is 15 cm from a converging lens of focal length of 13 cm.
4. A 2.5-cm-tall object is 16 cm from a diverging lens of focal length -13 cm.

If you could show your work, I would appreciate it ... I know there is a question similar to this.. but that answer is wrong.. thank you so much

If the answer is correct, I will rate you LIFESAVER!!!

AND ARE THERE DIFFERENT EQUATIONS FOR CONVERGING AND DIVERGING LENSES???

Explanation / Answer

1. A 1.0-cm-tall object is 8 cm from a converging lens of focal length of 10 cm.

1/q = 1/f - 1/p = 1/10 - 1/8

q = -40 cm

h' = h * (-(-40/8)) = 1 * 5 = 5 cm

2. A 1.5-cm-tall object is 7 cm from a diverging lens of focal length of -10 cm.

1/q = 1/f - 1/p = 1/(-10) - 1/7

q = -4.12 cm

h' = 1.5 * (-(-4.12/7)) = 0.88 cm

3. A 2.0-cm-tall object is 15 cm from a converging lens of focal length of 13 cm.

1/q = 1/f - 1/p = 1/13 - 1/15

q = 97.5 cm

h' = h * (-(97.5/15)) = -2 * 6.5 = -13 cm

4. A 2.5-cm-tall object is 16 cm from a diverging lens of focal length -13 cm.

1/q = 1/f - 1/p = 1/(-13) - 1/16

q = -7.17 cm

h' = 2.5 * (-(-7.17/16)) = 1.12 cm
