Question

Express the change in total momentum of the system as percentage of the intial momentum of the glider one. Are the results of the experiemtn consistent with the law of conservation of the momentum? Discuss possible source of error in your measurement and express the reative error of each source as percent?

Here the equations my lab use,
intial m1v1 = mass 1 * (length/time1,i)

intial m2v2= mass 2 * (length/time 2,i)

final m1v1 = mass 1 * (length/time 1,f)

final m2v2 = mass 2 * (length/time 2, f)

Intial P= intial m1v1+ intial m2v2

fina P= final m1v1 + final m2v2

delta P= |final P- intial P|

Can someone tell me which one is the total momentum? and which one is the intial momentum of glider one? and are they asking for percent deiation?

the diagram is below

Explanation / Answer

Glider one is the block no.1

total momentum = initial P ( which is equal to final P by conservation of momentum )

initial momentum of glider>

They are asking for : |final P - initial P| / m1v1 * 100
