Reason-- In apoplastic transport water and minerals flow in an upward direction via the apoplast to the xylem in the roots. The apoplastic pathway is also involved in passive exclusion . This means that some of the solutes that enter the root do not reach the xylem and are excluded by the plasma membrane of the endodermal cells. Hence , they accumulate and their concentration becomes higher than the surrounding soil.
