Question
X rays with a wavelength of 0.18 nm undergo first-order diffraction from a crystal at a 74 degree angle of incidence. 1) What is the angle of second-order diffraction? I have attempted this problem many times but still cannot find the correct answer. Do NOT copy and paste solutions from the internet or other Chegg questions. in braggs law angle is wrt horizontal. but in general we say angle of incidence wrt normal(vertical). so take theta =90-74=16
m = 1
, d = m*lambda/(2sin(16))
For m = 2
? = arcsin(2*lambda/(2d))
=arcsin(2*lambda/(2lambda/(2sin(16)))
=arcsin(2sin(16))
=33.45degrees
