Question
A door has a height of 2m and width of 50 cm. On a given day the pressure outisde the door is 0.90 atm and inside the door is 1 atm. What is the net force on the door?
This is what I tried:
Area of door = (2m)(0.50m)=1m^2
Pressure out=0.90 atm
Pressure in=1 atm
so Force=(pressure)(area)=(p of inside-p of outside)(area)=(1-0.90atm)(1m^2)=0.1 N
but I was marked incorrect on a quiz and I think I forgot that 1 atm does not equal 1 Pascal so didn't multiply in the unit factor of (1.013 x 10^5 Pa/1 atm) so the answer should be 10,000 N? Thanks in advance!
Explanation / Answer
Yes you are correct you have to convert atm to pascal to get force in newtons.
