Question
A person driving at v= 18 m/s crosses the line connecting two radio transmitters at right angles, as shown in the figure. The transmitters emit identical signals in phase with each other, which the driver receives on the car radio. WHen the car is at point A, the radio picks up a maximum net signal. What is the longest possible wavelength of the radio waves? How long ater the car passes point A does the radio experience minimum in the net signal? Assume that the wavelength has the value found in the previous question.
Explanation / Answer
a) constructive so PLD = integer number of wavelengths
450-150 = m lambda
biggest lambda with m =1
lambda = 300 m
b) now we want PLd = lambda /2 = 150 m
so if he goes up a distance x
PLD = sqrt(450^2+x^2) - sqrt(150^2+x^2)=150
x=503.12 m
x = vt
t = 503.12/18=27.95 s
