Question
Light from a 590 nm wavelength laser is shown through a double slit. This light is projected on a screen which is 4.31 m away from the slits. It is visually observed that the 14th order maximum is missing in the pattern and this missing order is 7.66 cm from the center of the pattern.
I already found the distance between the slits (center to center) to be 0.465 mm.
i also found the the next order that is missing in the pattern to be 28.
so, my questions are:
1.What is the width of one of those slits? Give your answer in millimeters.
2. At what distance from the center of the pattern is the missing order from part c? Give your answer in centimeters.
Explanation / Answer
for b) use the formula slit width = lambda / sin (theta for first minimum) sin theta for first minima = 0.0727 hence d = 590 nm / 0.0727 = 8.115 micron
