Question

The footy show have decided to run a strongman competition where each contestant must hold a six-pack of beer in each hand with their arms horizontal to the ground (i.e. arms horizontally out to the side). The contestant who maintains this position the longest will be declared the winner. For this competition, indicate which of the follwing statements is correct.

Competitors may cheat by holding their six-packs higher than perpendicular to the ground which will increase the moment arm length and the subsequent torque resistance. This technique will provide a mechanical advantage and position the muscles in a way that is easier (mechanically) to hold the resistance.

To be fairer, each competitor should have varying weighted six-packs that are matched to their arm lengths so that the torque resistance is equal for each competitor.

The person with the greatest dumbell lateral raise 1RM will be the strongest and win.

The person with the shortest arms, and therefore the shortest moment arm lengths will win.

None of the statements are correct.

Explanation / Answer

Option C is true because it puts the information plain and crisp, crystal clear, suits the TONE OF THE DESCRIPTION OF THE RULES OF THE GAME .It it may seem unfair,of course it should be and so is the world around us,deal with it ?? . It is close to reality

Option a is false because although it is logically true,if one wins by cheating taking advantage of the rules,he is not a hero, the winner of 'strongman' in this case.

Option b is false because it talks about handicap to the stronger contenders in the name of fairness,if that was the case then the tournament should have had different arm length categories for strongman title. And also, who decides how much weight to give to a person just based on arm length, what about arm's cross-section or other such factors,Doesn't it provide unfair advantage to short arm muscular guy and a disadvantage to a long arm lean guy?

Option d is false because it forgets about the strength factor and just talks about 'the shortest arm length' logic ;what about a weak guy with short arm length who can't hold the weight for long
