For the inclined circular gate 1 m in diameter with water on one side as shown, find the total resulitant force acting on the gate & the depth of the center of pressure. 3. Gate AB is 2.5 m long (perpendicular to this plane) & is hinged at B. Find the force on strut CD. Note: B, C& D are considered pins. ???

Explanation / Answer

By equating the pressures at datum line..... We get

Poil + Pmercury( for 0.3m) = Pccl4 + pressure in pipe on right side of datum

= Pa + (9000×1.1) + ( 132800×0.3) = Pb + (15600×0.8)

Pa - Pb = 37260 N/m² = 37.26 Kpa
