WtoO5SP LOOD S180 200 40 D TURN COCHLATOR 1143 20 Question 1. From the above display: (if the unit of any meter in the above picture is not clear, use the unit of the example meter in your lecture notes: all instruments in the above have the same reading unit as those in your lecture notes, such as 'knot', 'feet/min', etc.). 1. What is the current airplane's airspeed? 2. At what altitude is the airplane? 3. The airplane is in a turn or not? And which instrument(s) tell you? 4. If the current turn is proper'? And which instrument(s) tell you? How? 5. The airplane is descending or not? And which instrument(s) tell you? 6. What direction is this plane flying? 7. How long will the airplane take to descend (or climb) 1000 feet?

Explanation / Answer

1. Airspeed can be seen in the air speed indicator which is around around 110 knot

2. Altitude of the airplane can be measured by the altimeter it has two needles one long and other short. short needle gives reading corresponding to thousands of feet and long needle gives reading corresponding to hundreds of feet so the altitude is around 3200 feet above see level.

3. Turn indicator displays if the air plane is in turn or not. If the indicator is horizontal from L to R it means the airplane is not turning. but as you can see in the figure the indicator is inclined towards right so it is a case of standard right turn.

4. Yes the current turn is proper because the ball in the indicator is in center if it was not proper it would have shifted to either left or right. ball which is just above 2 min mark in the turn indicator.

5. vertical speed indicator tells us if the airplane is ascending or decending. yes it is descending at a rate of around 500 ft/min. see in VSI the indicator is below zero at around 5.

6. Heading indicator shows that it is moving in north east direction. That last one.
