Question
For a curved section of a railway, radius R-500 m, cant he-150 mm, cant deficiency h 120 mm. If a train is equipped with a curvature-dependant body-titling equipment, the permissible maximum speed for the curved section can be increased by 291 %(gravitational acceleration g-981 m/s) (a) Please determine the super-elevation of the curvature-dependent body-titling equipment (hs) in mm. (b) If the permissible maximum speed of a train without the curvature-dependent body- titling equipment for the curved section is 106.96 km/h, please find the distance of wheel contract points (2/) in mm. (c) Please find the permissible maximum speed in km/h for the curved section of a train with the curvature-dependent body-titling equipment.Explanation / Answer
GIven that,
R = 500m
hc = 150 mm
hd = 120 mm
g = 9.81 m/s2
a) hs = ?
V = 0.291V
f =0
hs = V2 /127R
= (0.291 x 385.2)2 / 127 x 500
= 197 mm
b) 2l = ?
2l = 0.27 (( hc + hd )xR)1/2
= 0.27 ((0.15 + 0.12 )x 500 )1/2
= 3.13 m
c) V = 198L / hs
= 198 x 1.56 / 0.15
= 2059.2 m/s
= 572 kmph
