Question

For those who finished the master or PhD degree I have a question..

I have decided to do my study in the US and I am asian student, and I heard there are lots of student from diffrent countries, but many are from middle asian countries.. And I heard many are sharing the old exams, and papers or good information for themselves

I am afraid that I may be fall behind in the whole classes..

Whould you be able to share your insights or give advice how you finished your masters or PhD and survived those environments? I heard its usually the asian student fall behind because of those atmosphere....

I really would like to know more about electrical engineering, and I am not a one of those "smart" asian students so I am afraid.....

Please give the real advice not the vague somewhat typical statements...

Thank you, and I appriciate your consult in advance

Explanation / Answer

Dear Student,

I have done my masters in Osmania University. Most of my friends have done masters in US. Even i thought of doing but due to some financial problems in my family I could do it in the Indian University. Here as you are in need of the information regarding the education system there, I would like to provide you with some valuable information which my friends shared.

1) Here in the asian countries for electrical engineering, we are exposed to Machines and Power systems in particular along with some other subjects like Controls and Power Electronics. But in the US along with these subjects they are also exposed in " detail " about the Control Systems , Electronics and Electromagnetics.

2) Though the asian countries also deals with the Controls, Electronics and Electromagnetics we won't be going in detail but the students will have good command in Controls, Electronics along with Machines and Power systems which are the main subjects for electrical engineering.

3) As per my friends they said students were good at the Control System design.

4) So my suggestion be like if you are perfect in the Control System Design , Electronics and Electromagnetics you could definitely enjoy your studies there. If not prepare them in advance by the time you go there which would help you excel in your studies there.

5) Here I enclose some of the books you should be perfect with. If you are perfect with the contents in these books along with Machines and Power Systems you could definitely rock in US.

Modern Control Engineering by Katsuhiko Ogata

Electronic Devices and Circuit Theory by Robert Boylestad

Engineering Electromagnetics by Hayt and Buck

Electrical Machines by P S Bhimbra

Power System Analysis by Stevenson

Please do be perfect with these books before you reach there for your masters.

Hope You Do Well. Thank You. Have a Nice Day.
