Question
Scrutinise the circuit and gain and understanding of its intended operation. Do this by identifying the sub-circuit blocks.
By including datasheet information where needed, calculate expected voltages at points A, B and C for the extreme settings of the potentiometer. Also, calculate the voltage from the potentiometer (threshold) at A, at which you expect the comparator’s output to change. What role does the switch SW1 play? Determine any expected timing values in the circuit.
Considering Circuitry of SECTION Y :
By looking at the datasheet of the 4017, work out and explain the expected behavior of this section of circuitry.

Solution:
Consider the OPAMP is ideal,
So the inputs of the opamp are virtually grounded and voltage at both terminals is same
So the voltage at point A is given by VA = 5 V
Now, The voltage at point B is VB
VB = (1 + 6/6) VA = 2 * 5 = 10 V
To find the value at point C,
The digital circuit is nothing but active low S-R latch so
The voltage at point C is equal to the voltage at point B as long as switch SW1 is open
VC = 10 V
If switch SW1 is closed then the output voltage at point C will be 0 V
In the case of output to be change,
The potentiometer divides the voltage according to the change we want at point A and similar change will take place at the output of the opamp.
