Question
A 250 ton per day rotary kiln (lime stone calcining) operates as part of a lime manufacturing facility. A plant survey has determined the following: Exhaust gas from kiln: 30,000 scfm or 88,000 acfm at 1, 100 degree F (the gas composition is N_2 60%, CO_2 24%, H_2O 15%, O_2 1% be volume) Pollutants are particulate matter with a MMD of 30 mu m and 30% less than 10 mu m in size Control efficiency required is 99% Control device must be located 200 ft from source Design at least two options of air pollution control system trains and recommend one of them with your reasons. Design must include sizing of units and calculations of pressure drop and fan and compressor power requirements where appropriate. Clearly state your assumptions and include a summary table and a flow diagram of the recommended air pollution control system. This is a design problem you should solve it twice one with the (scrubber or wet collectors) and (scrubbers). And you will assume some numbers to solve it. Thanks!Explanation / Answer
Table1- System Design Parameters
Refuse Firing Rate - 600 tons per day per train
flue ga to APC equipment - 176026acfm
Flue Gas Temperature - 475degF
Maximum inlet HCL- 1500 ppm @ 7% oxygen
Maximum inlet So2 - 600ppm @ 7% oxygen
