Question
3. The basic circuit for the successive approximation of the A/D conversion scheme is shown here along with a brinary tree representing the possible outputs of a D/A converter. In the numerical questions below, your answers should be stated to 3 decimal places (except for integers a. Assume that the half-way voltage from the DA converter is exactly 5.000 volts and the each successive digit divides the previous voltage separation in half, as shown for the first three splits in the binary tree diagram. What is the lowest voltage produced? (It is not 0.000 volts) b. What is the highest voltage produced? (It is not 10.000 volts) c. What is the smallest voltage step?Explanation / Answer
In the given binary tree diagram, the half-way voltage from D/A convertor is 5000V and the successive digits divides as follows: 2500 V , 1250 V, 625 V,312.5 V,156.25 V,78.12 V,39.0625 V,19.53125 V
So we get the lowest voltage =19.531 V
The highest voltage can be found by the summation of successive voltages ie 4980.463 V
Here we get the highest voltage obtained is nearly 1 LSB less than the voltage from D/A convertor voltage of 5000V
